Powell Middle School
Project Location
Powell, Tennessee
The project renovated 78,500 square feet and added 117,000 square feet of new school space, creating a combined school facility of 195,5000 square feet. The new gymnasium can be isolated from the remainder of the building to provide for after-hours community use. The old gymnasium was renovated into a new music and choral program using the high ceilings for better acoustic properties. Safety and security is enhanced by a secure checkpoint entry at the administrative offices. Bus and car traffic have been separated to improve the previously congested traffic flow at arrival and dismissal times.
The site was very limited and dictated the location of the new classroom wing and gymnasium. To maintain safety and security, phased construction was utilized. The new wing was constructed first to allow portions of the existing building to be vacated prior to the renovation phases of the project. The end result is a like-new school with a seamless delivery of the project without interruption to the educational process.
