Oak Ridge National Laboratories Research Support Center

Project Location

Oak Ridge, Tennessee

The Department of Energy and UT Battelle modernized the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Facilities including the Research Support Center (RSC). The 52,000 square foot RSC houses a state-of-the-art conferencing facility with meeting rooms outfitted with the latest innovations in interactive audio-visual technologies. Specialized meeting rooms for press briefings and for teleconferencing are also provided. The building houses major food service and dining areas for up to 400 ORNL staff and visitors. RSC houses the Visitor Center and Badging Operations for the labs as well, with approximately 15,000 visitors passing through annually. RSC is a portal providing a first impression to staff and visitors as they enter the East Campus area. As the gateway for the new East Campus complex of buildings, this award-winning project is unique in its architectural expression. A large leaning glass tower, or lantern, at the corner of the building helps define the RSC as the destination point for visitors.
